Learn Python the Hard Way by Zed A. Shaw is free to read online, but it charges a nominal amount to down in pdf/ ePub format. Although the book title says Learn Python the Hard Way, it is probably the only way to learn any programming language. (Trying it out on a computer statement by statement, not reading like a novel).
